Before you go into starting your own business, try asking yourself this question: What do you want to achieve in life? This may seem like a simple question, but is not. Being an entrepreneur is a life-changing decision. It requires much commitment, effort, time and money. Hence, it is important to know what you really want before making the decision to start your own business.

Questions to ask yourself

These questions can help you to make a decision on whether you are an entrepreneur or not.

  1. Are you willing to work hand, put in much effort, invest your money and accept failures?
  2. Are you willing to shoulder responsibilities and making decisions?
  3. Do you have the determination and discipline to run your business?

If your answer is no to any of the questions above, then you may not be ready to start your own business yet. If your answers are positive to all the three questions, then you may proceed to figure out your life plan that can help you in your business.

Life Plan

A life plan is a what you envision your life to be like, as well as a list of your characteristics. Do you know what makes you happy or unhappy? Do you understand your strengths and weaknesses? By thinking through these questions, you can understand your personal style. By having a life plan, you can periodically visit the plan and measure your success and can help your make decisions. A life plan acts as a reminder to your life's goal instead of your business goals. Ultimately, business goals should be such that it fits into your life's goal.

StartupNation has a life plan template that you can use. Feel free to modify it according to your needs.
